FanDuel Musings: Benjamin Injury Blows Up Carolina Passing Attack?

As of the morning of Wednesday 8/19/15 we are waiting for clarity on the severity of the knee injury to Kelvin Benjamin - but according to Footballguys' injury expert Dr. Jene Bramel, the mechanism of the injury (non-contact cut) is very worrisome. Click on the link embedded with Dr Bramel's name to see his twitter feed discussing knee injuries and the range of Benjamin's possible issues. UPDATE - The MRI confirmed the worst news for Benjamin - he is out for the season due to a torn ACL in his knee.

A couple of days ago I wrote a blog post about the deep passing element to the Panthers' passing attack and how it played out in the first preseason game.

Especially, I noted: "Devin Funchess caught two passes from Derek Anderson (2/54/0) with the long going for 34 yards. Ted Ginn Jr. had a 38-yard reception. Reserve running back Brandon Wegher had 1/42/1 receiving, and reserve wide receiver Marcus Lucas (two targets for 2/36/0 receiving, with a long of 29) also pulled in a long throw."

As Benjamin is out for the season, we now need to see how the coaching staff responds to going without Benjamin in the upcoming preseason games. If "Bombs Away" to Devin Funchess and Ted Ginn Jr. continues to be in the game plan, then I am putting them both on my short list for Week 1 regular season at FanDuel. Funchess could be an incredible value at $4,600 in salary, and Ginn is only commanding $4,500.

Bottom line here - pay attention to Funchess' and Ginn's roles on offense during the upcoming preseason games.
